Grant from the New York Foundation for the Arts and the Upper Catskill Community Council of the Arts in 1998 and 1996. As a Korean-born adoptee who came to the U.S. as an infant, I grew up with no connection to the people and culture of Korea. Traditional Korean art exhibits a love of the simple design and the well-balanced composition, which I believe stems from wedding the urge to create with the desire for logic and order. This fusing of diverse elements speaks strongly to me. For most of my life I have felt as though I have had to choose between the paradoxes of creativity or intellect: feeling or thinking, senses or words. In my work I am able to bring together and synthesize the disparities of my being, which allows me to feel whole. From Nueva Luz Volume 6:1 Website: |
