Angel Chevrestt Resides: Bronx, NY Heritage: Puerto Rican Selected Exhibitions: The Haven Gallery, Bronx, NY 2008 En Foco at Hostos Art Gallery, Bronx, NY 1996 Education: Hunter College, New York, NY Awards: Bronx Council on the Arts / BRIO Grant, 1995, 2000 En Foco'’s New Works Photography Award #1, 1995-96 Artist for Community Enrichment Grant, 1993 Angel Chevrestt’'s series, titled A "Newyorican’s" Journey, documents his travels through Cuba, Guatemala and Mexico, depicting unique moments as they related to his experience of being “brought up in a ‘Puerto’ culture in a foreign land.” The search for his own identity offers viewers glimpses of the land and the people, finding similarities that bind all Latino cultures. Chevrestt, a Bronx resident, is a freelance photographer, and works as an educator in the Public School system. He has taught photography at The Bronx Museum of the Arts and The Bronx River Art Center & Gallery, and photographed for El Diário La Prensa in New York City. |
