In my photographs, I attempt to capture an emotion, a memory or a past sensation. Some images capture fleeting episodes from my daily life. Some are purposefully staged and highly charged. At times, I combine and manipulate multiple layers of words and pictures to explore societal attitudes towards marginalized groups (particularly those whom I identify: woman, queer, Latina) that don't conform to dominant Western ideologies. Other times, I digitally insert self portraits into existing narratives or environments to create a disjuntive scenerio." |
