“With the supposed breakthroughs and Obamafication of 21st Century America, one would think that there would be a level playing field for photographers of all races. Yet as a latino, I’m so proud and glad that En Foco is around, offering, in my words, calidad y claridad; the opportunity for these quality photographers to shine and offering clarity of vision for their vocation and art."

“I was impressed with the commitment of its staff and its long history of helping artists of color. It has done more to promote these artists than many of the larger more established groups. I look forward to continuing our support and helping En Foco reach new milestones in the coming years."

Ben Rodriguez-Cubenas, Program Director,
Rockefeller Brothers Fund
(October 2006)

"In the first week it was ‘on the streets’ I received three contacts from galleries. I am so honored that you have supported my work and believe in me. Sometimes or maybe even most times – the (art) world feels very alienating. Yet, with En Foco, I have found a new family. One that continues to help me develop as a strong and confidant artist”
Lola Flash, Photographer
(Volume 11#1, 2006)

"Thirty years later En Foco's presence has made a place in public art for those who are potentially underrepresented and has insured that good photography doesn´t slip through our cultural prejudices."

"New Works really started the ball rolling. The award gave me the opportunity to exhibit outside of Texas which gave me leverage and credibility in galleries across the nation. It was also the foundation for my getting tenure at the University of Texas at Arlington. The University published information about the exhibition in their monthly magazine and I received a congraulatory letter from the board of Regants for the Unversity of Texas. I truly believe all of this happened because of the En Foco award. A little bit late but... THANK YOU!"
-- Andrew Ortiz, 2007

Nueva Luz was nominated by Utne Magazine for Best of the Alternative Press (2001).

Former Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer, issues a Proclamation declaring February 23 as "En Foco Day." The Organization was recognized for being a "vital source of information and educational opportunities designed to allow culturally diverse photographers a more prominent position in mainstream American photography…" (Feb 2000)

"For over 24 years, En Foco has actively promoted photographers of color according to the profound, simple and revolutionary premise that artists whose work reflected their ethnic roots were developing a unique iconography of high artistic and cultural significance. This premise, preceded 'multiculturalism by two decades, and prepared the way for the recognition that different cultural and ethnic groups make an all-important contribution to the cultural and artistic life of the United States."
Susana Torruella Leval, Fomer Executive Director
El Museo del Barrio, NYC

"Nueva Luz is an indispensable publication, both in presenting the work of photographers and in providing invaluable information to its readers."

"We need more publications such as Nueva Luz, but the economics of this genre of media proves quite difficult, with plenty of examples, both for profit and non-profit, that had to cease publishing. Nueva Luz deserves every penny it earns, receives and generates, and it deserves more..."
Robert C. Buitrón, Photographer and Teacher
